2020 Home Trends

What is your plan for your home this year? Are you hip to the home décor trends for 2020? Trends, styles and colors come and go in home furnishings, so we wanted to share some of our favorite trends for 2020 and let you know what we are planning to incorporate into our designs. Our team just wrapped up at the Dallas Total Home and Gift Market so we had a week filled with new products and design resources. So, here are our top 5 home décor trends that will be everywhere!

Style- Scandinavian or Beachy

The style trend we expect to see most is Scandinavian—clean, bright, simplistic, modern, and airy. The colors will be neutral, bright whites, and monochromatic in these rooms.  If you are not into the Scandinavian look that will be everywhere, another trend that you can expect to see is coastal with beachy influences. This trend will feature warm neutrals and moody blues, so feel free to create a coastal escape in your home. How would you describe your style and the theme in your home? Out with the farmhouse and mid-century modern style trends, and in with live plants, warm textures, and minimalist themes. Overall, the styles we will see will be clam and muted.

Color- Blue

The color of the year is BLUE! Blue is a soothing color and is known to be calm and peaceful. Let’s take a look at some of the top brand’s colors of the year.

PPG Paints’ 2020 color of the year is Chinese Porcelain (PPG1160-6) – a blend of cobalt and moody, ink blue offering escapism. The 2020 Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year is Naval SW 6244 which is "a rich navy hue that strikes a balance between calm and confident," Sherwin-Williams described. Pantone named Classic Blue (PANTONE 19-4052) as the Pantone Color of the Year 2020. The color is described to be restful, timeless, resilient, elegant, and simplistic.

2020 is a new era and these colors all suggest a tone of reflection, centered thoughts, stability, rest, and peace. Beyond the shades of blue, we can expect to see matte, muted, pastel colors as seen in Benjamin Moore’s 2020 fresh color palette:

Mixed Metals

Combining different metal finishes and dual tone finishes into your home design is IN! Gone are the days where all of the metal tones and finishes are matching throughout your home and everything is uniformed. Feel free to mix metals in your bathroom or kitchen, on your hardware and finishes. We are seeing antique brass paired with graphite, polished chrome mixed with brass, or even brass, chrome, and black together.

Light Wood Tones

In wood tones on furnishings and floors, we are seeing a shift to lighter tones and more blonde woods. Forget the past of super dark espresso furniture and floors, we are seeing a shift to light oak and more blonde colored wood tones. Lighter wood tones help create an illusion that a room is larger, airier, and has more of a casual feel.

Natural Elements

Homeowners will bring the outside in though plant-life, natural textiles and materials, and place more focus on production and sustainable materials. Natural textiles like cotton, linen, wool, and leather, are popular and natural materials like polished or raw marble, rattan, and acacia wood will be seen in home design.  There will be plans to purchase plants, handmade goods, focus on artisans, and awareness of ethically sourced products.
