We took a day off of staging to spend time volunteering with Dwell with Dignity. Dwell with Dignity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating homes for families struggling with homelessness and poverty. Their mission is to help families escape poverty and homelessness through design; one household at a time. The agency’s goals are to bring good design to those less fortunate, inspiring them to maintain a standard of living they can be proud of and thrive in. Dwell with Dignity has several unique volunteer opportunities, however we opted to assist with an upcoming family project install. Our team spent the day volunteering in the Dwell studio where we were assigned the task of creating a headboard. Other volunteers present that day were painting, creating artwork, and refurbishing furniture.
We started with five wood panels for the headboard and sanded the edges until they were smooth. Next, batting was measured and stapled to each wood panel. Last, we added a beautiful, pink, velvet fabric to complete each panel.
Pictured are steps 1, 2, and 3 of the pink headboard we created for Dwell with Dignity. This "do it yourself" project was a different way to flex our creative muscles. Building and modifying this piece of furniture tapped into new skills and we were so happy to help design part of the room for an upcoming reveal for a deserving family.
Just look at all five panels of our pink, velvet headboard coming together! Our team creates inspiring home interiors daily in our staging projects, but it felt more rewarding to get hands on for a cause. We definitely enjoyed our time and were SO proud of the end results. The Dwell with Dignity team completed the family project install and WOW—check out this beautiful room with a floor to ceiling velvet headboard as the focal point. The five panels were hung horizontally on the wall and then stacked vertically to create a tall and dramatic pink headboard. The Dwell team did an amazing job with the vision and installation of this bedroom. The family project turned out so well and this mom has a beautiful bedroom to call home.
